Sourced candidates for a role
Updated
sourcing, sourced candidates, found on LinkedIn, headhunting, passive candidates, outside the poolSourcing is part of every managed job ad, at no extra cost. Orbit looks for people outside the Virtual CV pool and invites the ones who fit the role well to claim a Virtual CV and apply. Free ads don’t run it.
Open the role
Select Jobs in the sidebar, then select a managed role.
Read the Sourcing line
The role’s header shows Sourcing, then how many people were sourced, invited, claimed and applied. Each count appears once somebody reaches that step. The line appears once Sourcing has found somebody.
Find sourced people in the list
Select the role’s Candidates tab. Under Source, sourced people are listed with All and Matches. Each one has the Sourced or Found on LinkedIn badge and a status.
Open a sourced person
Select the person to read their summary, their fit and what their status means.
There's no Sourcing line
Sourcing runs only on a managed ad, for a role in one of the countries it currently covers (see below). It invites only people who fit the role well, so a role can have nobody sourced. If the role isn’t managed, see Manage a job ad.
Sourced people aren't in the list
They show in the List view, under All or Matches, and only while no filter is on under Filters. Clear your filters to see them.
Where Orbit looks
Orbit looks outside the Virtual CV pool, in two places:
- Professional profile data. People found here have the Sourced badge.
- Public LinkedIn profiles, found through a web search for the role. People found here have the Found on LinkedIn badge.
Orbit reads each person against the role with the same fit assessment your applicants get. Only people who fit the role well are invited.
Sourcing currently runs for roles in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United States, India, the Philippines and Argentina.
How people are invited
The invitation asks the person to claim a Virtual CV built from their profile and apply to your role. It goes out by email, or on LinkedIn: a connection request first, then a message with the invitation once they accept.
What each status means
- Queued: their invitation is queued, and nobody has contacted them yet.
- Invited on LinkedIn: they’ve been sent a LinkedIn connection request. If they accept, they’re messaged the invitation.
- Connected: they’ve accepted the connection request, and they’ll be messaged the invitation.
- Messaged on LinkedIn: they’ve been messaged the invitation on LinkedIn.
- Invited: they’ve been emailed the invitation.
- Claimed: they’ve claimed their Virtual CV and haven’t applied yet.
- Applied: they’ve applied. Their application is on the list as an ordinary applicant.
What you see before they apply
Until they claim their Virtual CV, a sourced person is an unverified draft. It’s marked Unverified draft — built from professional profile data, or Unverified draft — prepared from their public LinkedIn profile, found through a web search for someone found on LinkedIn. You see their summary and their fit, and Only this summary is shared until they claim their Virtual CV.
There’s nothing to do until they apply. You can’t screen, interview or move a sourced person, or send them to a client.
When they apply
Once a sourced person applies, they’re an ordinary applicant on the role’s list, with every action: ranked against the role, and ready to screen, interview, move through your stages or send to a client. Their row keeps the Sourced badge, with Applied.
Cost and free ads
Sourcing is included in a managed ad at no extra cost. Nothing is added to your plan or your invoices.
A free ad never runs Sourcing. It may show how many people were found on LinkedIn for the role, with Manage this ad to invite them. Nobody is invited until you manage the ad, and managing it starts a fresh search. See Managed and unmanaged job ads.
