Send a screening to a candidate

Updated

This is for recruiters who want to screen applicants before an interview. A screening is a short written interview the candidate takes in their own time. You get findings for each part, in their own words, with no score.

Open the candidate

Select Jobs in the sidebar, open a managed role, then select an applicant on the Candidates tab.

Start the screening

On the Screening card, select Screen this candidate.

Choose the template language

Under Template language, choose the language the candidate will answer in.

Choose a template

Under Template, choose a screening template. Each option shows its number of parts, and whether it is Included or its cost per screening.

Set the deadline

Under Complete by, choose the date the candidate must finish by, up to a month ahead. If you leave it empty, the candidate has seven days.

Add a note, if you like

In A note to the candidate (optional), write a short message. It appears in their invitation, in your words.

Send it

Select Send screening. If this screening goes beyond the ad’s included screenings, Orbit shows the cost first. Select Confirm and send to go ahead. Orbit asks only once per ad.

I don't see Screen this candidate

Screening is part of a managed job ad. If the role isn’t managed, see Manage a job ad. If the person is an AI match, the card shows Invite to apply instead: they need to apply before you can screen them.

It says the monthly limit is reached

Extra screenings have reached this month’s spending limit. An account admin can raise the limit in Settings, then Billing, under Screenings beyond the included ones.

It says the candidate can't be reached

The candidate may have turned employer contact off, their email address may not be valid, or they may have been contacted enough this week. Read the message shown and try again later if it suggests that.

No templates show for my language

Pick another language, or clone a template from the library in Screening, then the Templates tab.

How the candidate receives it

  • A candidate with a Virtual CV account gets it in their Interviews inbox.
  • A candidate who applied with a PDF gets an email with a one-time link.

You can see the status on the candidate’s Screening card and on the Screening page in the sidebar: Invited, Accepted, In progress, Completed, Declined, Expired or Withdrawn.

Screen several people at once

On a role’s Candidates tab, add people to the comparison, then select Screen selected. Orbit shows how many of the ad’s included screenings this uses and what any extra ones cost. If sending stops part way, select Try again. Nobody is sent twice.

What it costs

Each managed job ad includes a number of screenings. After that, each completed screening is billed at its template’s cost per screening on your month-end invoice. Declined, expired or withdrawn screenings cost nothing. See Orbit plans and pricing for the numbers.

When the candidate finishes, see Read a screening report. To resend the invitation or withdraw it, see Resend or withdraw a screening.
