Read your practice report
Updated
interview feedback, practice report, STAR method, score, transcript, retry question, progress, print reportA minute or two after a practice interview ends, its report is ready, and we let you know with a notification and an email. The report is in the interview’s language. It goes through each answer, quotes your own words, and never gives you a score.
Open Practice
In the sidebar, select Interviews, then select Practice at the top of the page.
Open the practice
Select the practice you want. One whose report is ready shows Report ready.
Start with the summary
Under Summary, read What went well and What to work on. Each point links to the question it’s about.
Go through each question
Under The interview, select a part to jump to its question, or scroll through the question cards.
Replay an answer
On a question card, select Play this answer to watch or hear your answer. Select a highlighted part of the transcript to jump to that moment.
It says Your report is being prepared
It usually takes a minute or two. The page updates as soon as it’s ready, and we email you too.
It says We couldn't build this report
Select Try again. What was already analysed is kept. If it can’t be built again, you can still select Practice again.
It says There were no answers to report on
The interview ended before any question was answered, so there’s nothing to analyse.
It says Video expired
Recordings are kept for 30 days. The transcript and the rest of the report stay.
On each question card
- Why we asked this: what the question comes from, quoted from the role, your CV or the company facts. Typical for this role means the role said little about it. Asked because of your earlier answer marks a question that followed from what you said.
- Your answer: your recording and the transcript. Answers you typed are marked Typed. The card also says whether you answered the question, partly answered it, or moved away from it.
- STAR: for a question that asks for an example, whether your answer had a Situation, Task, Action and Result, each marked Present, Thin or Missing. Your own words for each are highlighted in the transcript. It also counts how often you said “I” and “we” about what you did, and names common gaps, such as a result with no measure.
- Fit to the role: the requirements the question was looking for, quoted from the role, and whether your answer showed them.
- Specifics: the Numbers, Names, Scale and Timeframes in your answer.
- Your CV: something you said that isn’t on your CV, with Add to your Virtual CV, or something that differs from it, with Check your Virtual CV. An interviewer may ask about those.
- Delivery: facts about how you spoke: how long your answer was against what most interviewers expect, words a minute, how soon you began, your pauses and your filler phrases. Hesitation sounds, such as “um”, aren’t measured.
- A stronger answer: an outline built from your own answer and your CV. It never adds achievements you didn’t mention. Sometimes it suggests a different example instead.
No score, on purpose
The report has no score, grade or percentage. It never judges you as a person: nothing about confidence, personality, emotions or “culture fit”, and nothing about your face or expressions.
Your questions and the company
Your questions for us lists the questions you asked the interviewer, each marked Specific or Generic, and What strong candidates ask for this role. If you didn’t ask any, it says so: in a real interview, that’s a missed chance. Know the company shows the company facts we found, with their sources.
Retry a question
To answer one question again, select Retry this question on its card. You get the same question, interviewer and follow-ups, for up to 5 minutes. A retry has its own price in credits, shown before you start. Select Start the retry to begin. The new attempt appears on the same card, as Attempt 2, with its own feedback.
Skipped questions and the closing questions can’t be retried. If it says the recording statement has changed, start a new practice and agree to it there.
Practice again
Select Practice again to set up a new practice for the same role, with the same choices. We read the role again and prepare new questions. The new practice is charged when you select Begin.
Your progress
Once three practices have a report, Your progress on the Practice page shows how you’re doing across them: Competencies across practices, STAR elements per practice, Filler phrases a minute and Median STAR answer length. Select Show table to see the numbers behind a chart.
Print the report
Use your browser’s Print command. The printed report has no video or buttons, shows every question in full, and marks STAR parts with letters in brackets, such as [S].
To delete a practice and its recording, see Privacy and recordings in practice interviews.
