Take a practice interview
Updated
AI interviewer, mock interview, pause interview, skip question, type my answer, microphone not working, end interview early, refund practiceOnce you select Begin, an AI interviewer speaks to you and you answer out loud, as in a real interview. It keeps time and stays neutral throughout: your feedback comes afterwards, in the report.
Listen to the question
The interviewer speaks, and its words appear as a caption. To hear a question again, select Repeat the question.
Answer out loud
When you see Your turn — answer when you’re ready., answer as you would in the real interview. A short pause to think doesn’t end your answer.
Finish your answer
Select I’m done. If you stay silent for a few seconds, the interviewer moves on by itself.
Ask your own questions
Near the end, the interviewer asks whether you have any questions. Ask one or two, as you would in the real interview.
Open your report
When the interview ends, keep the page open until you see Your recording is saved., then select Open your report.
I can't hear the interviewer
Select Play the question. If it still doesn’t play, select Continue without sound and read the caption. Before your next practice, check your speakers with Play a test sound in the device check.
It says Practice interviews are paused for a moment
Your interview is saved. Try again in a few minutes.
It says We can't hear your microphone
Check that your browser is allowed to use the microphone, in its site settings, and that no other app is using it. Then select Try again.
It says Speech recognition isn't working right now
Type your answer and select Send answer. If it keeps failing, your answers are typed for the rest of the interview.
The interviewer doesn't move on
Select I’m done. When the page shows Finished? Press “I’m done”., it’s waiting for you.
It says Something went wrong on our side
Select Try again. If the interview stops before you’ve answered the second question, your credits are returned automatically.
I closed the page by mistake
Select Interviews, then Practice, and open the practice marked In progress. Select Start to pick up where you left off. After 10 minutes without activity the interview ends, and your report covers what you’d answered.
The controls
- Repeat the question: hear the question again.
- Skip: move on without answering. Your report marks the question Skipped.
- Pause: stop the clock for up to 5 minutes, once per interview. Select Resume to carry on.
- Type instead: type this answer, then select Send answer. Select Answer by voice to speak again. Your report marks typed answers Typed, without delivery facts.
- End early: then select End interview, or Keep going to carry on. What you’ve answered is kept and your report covers it, but you can’t come back to the interview.
How the interview runs
- The interviewer opens with a short introduction, then asks about the role and your CV. Some questions follow from what you said earlier.
- After an answer, it may ask up to two follow-up questions. A Challenging interviewer follows up more readily than a Friendly one.
- It never tells you how you’re doing. That’s what the report is for.
- Your answers aren’t shown on screen, just as in a real interview. Only the interviewer’s words are captioned.
- It keeps time. It tells you when you’re coming to the end, may ask a few short closing questions, and then asks for your questions. It answers them from the role and the public facts about the company. For anything else, it suggests you keep the question for the hiring manager.
If something goes wrong
If something goes wrong on our side and the interview stops before you’ve answered the second question, your credits are returned automatically. The end screen says Your credits have been returned.
If you end the interview yourself or leave it, the credits aren’t returned. Your report covers what you answered.
After the interview
Your report is usually ready a minute or two after the end. We let you know with a notification and an email. See Read your practice report.
